Chelsea are desperate to sell their fringe players and thus seem to be doing everything they can to force Conor Gallagher out of the club.
Chelsea Eager to Sell Conor Gallagher
According to The Sun's Tom Barclay, Chelsea have ordered Gallagher not to train with first team. This move has garnered criticism from football fans on social media.
During a meeting held today with club officials, Gallagher had expressed his interest in signing a new long-term contract. But instead, the club have informed him that he won't be allowed to train with the first-team squad. He had earlier rejected contract offers from the club as he felt the duration of the deal didn't match his expectations.
Chelsea believe Gallagher doesn't fit manager Enzo Maresca's style of possession based football. Hence, they are eager to sell him and free some space and bring in valuable funds. Any money they receive from the Englishman's sale will be accounted as pure profit since he is a product of Chelsea's youth academy. This will help the London club to comply with the Profit and Sustainabilty Rules.
A combative midfielder like Gallagher will have no shortage of suitors. Chelsea had accepted a bid worth £33 million from Spanish club Atletico Madrid, but personal terms are yet to be agreed. It is unsure if the midfielder will be interested to move abroad but the Blues are hoping to sell him as he has less than one year remaining on his current deal.
Fellow London club Tottenham Hotspurs had also shown interest in Gallagher but didn't submit any official bid. Even if they do so it remains to be seen if Chelsea would sell to a local rival.
Chelsea are also looking to sell another academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah. The arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo has thrown Chalobah's future at the club into doubt.
