Selling fringe players is vital for Chelsea so that the money received can be used to strike deals for their transfer targets. But it is easier said than done. The Londoners seem to be facing difficulties in moving some of their players.
Chalobah Reluctant to Quit Chelsea
HITC has reported that Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is being persuaded to leave the club. But the 24-year-old is showing no interest in moving away from Stamford Bridge. This is a potential headache for the club as they face a similar situation with Conor Gallagher.
The arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham has made Chalobah surplus to requirements. Disasi, Badiashile, and Fofana are above the Chelsea youth product in the pecking order. So game time will be hard to come by.
Any money that Chelsea receive for Chalboah will be accounted for as pure profit and aid their compliance with the Profit and Sustainability Rules. This makes the sale of Chalobah and Gallagher, another academy graduate, attractive to the club from a financial perspective.
Chalobah is believed to be on the transfer shortlist of Crystal Palace who might make a move for him if Marc Geuhi ends up leaving the club. A positive display in the Euros might kick up interest in Guehi from the bigger clubs. And Chalobah would be an apt replacement for him should the Chelsea star change his mind about a transfer.
Another viewpoint in Chalobah's transfer saga is Chelsea's pursuit of Michael Olise. Chelsea would receive a boost if their player agrees to leave the club as it could open up the possibility of a swap deal which will benefit all parties. However, a straight swap is not likely to happen as Olise is valued at around £60 million by The Eagles and Chalobah is valued at a much lesser amount. So, Todd Boehly will have to cough up some extra cash.
