On Saturday afternoon, Brentford hosted Ipswich Town, who were still looking for their first victory in the Premier League.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank opted for a line up of; Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Pinnock, van den Berg; Norgaard, Janelt; Mbuemo, Damsgaard, Lewis-Potter; Wissa.

His opposite number, Kieran McKenna, meanwhile, went for; Muric, Clarke, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Cajuste, Phillips; Ogbene, Chaplin, Szmodics; Hirst.

Brentford 4-3 Ipswich Town: As it happened

After twenty-eight minutes, Szmodics opened the scoring for Ipswich, opening his body up to curl the ball into the bottom corner. Three minutes later, Hirst latched onto a through ball from Chaplin to dink the ball past the onrushing Flekken and make it 2-0 to McKenna’s side.

However, one minute before half-time, Yoane Wissa halved the deficit on his return to the starting XI, with a left footed finish from inside the box.

He thought he had his second of the game a minute into stoppage time, but the goal went down as a Clarke own goal. Nevertheless, two goals in three minutes just before the break to change the team talks of both managers.

Just five minutes into the second half and Brentford were awarded a penalty. Talisman Mbuemo stepped up to complete the turnaround, with his seventh goal of the season in just nine games.

That goal looked like it was going to be enough for all three points, particularly after Clarke was sent off, meaning he had scored an own goal, given away a penalty, and been sent off. However, a goal from substitute Liam Delap four minutes from the end of the 90 minutes put Ipswich back in the game. The goal was his 5th of the season in just 638 minutes of football.

There would be yet one more twist to come. Cutting inside from the right hand side, his floated cross went through everyone and landed in the bottom corner to make it 4-3 to Brentford. There would still be time for Delap to hit the post, but Brentford would hold onto secure all three points.
