The final 25-man shortlist for the 2024 golden boy award has been released, with several huge names who have already etched themselves into football folklore on the list. With it, there are some Premier League players listed. Let’s take a look at each and every one.
Premier League players shortlisted
1. Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho has enjoyed regular game time, with the 20-year old having over 30 consecutive starts at one point for Manchester United. The young winger was part of the squad for Argentina's successful Copa America defence in the summer.
2. Savio
Savio had a brilliant season at Girona last season, helping the club to a third place finish and their first ever European campaign. The Brazilian winger has made a positive start to life in England, with some comparing his style to former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.
3. Rico Lewis
Savio's team mate Rico Lewis joins the list. The young defender has enjoyed minutes for Pep Guardiola's side in a variety of different roles, and his good form for Manchester City has lead to another couple of England caps.
4. Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo has been one of the breakout stars for club and country in 2024. Having got into the Manchester United side at the back end of 2023, after an injury ruled him out of the early stages of the season, the midfielder has not looked back, and started the Euros final at just 19-years old.
5. Leny Yoro
Another Manchester United player joins the list - albeit for his performances at Lille, with injury having prevented his United debut to date. Still, those displays in France lead to heavy interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United. so it is hard to argue this one.
6. Adam Wharton
Adam Wharton joined Crystal Palace late in the winter transfer window from Championship side Blackburn Rovers, and had such an impact in just a few months that he was named in England's Euros squad. It has not been the start to the season that he would have wanted, but his talent is clear.
Some very well deserved mentions, and for 6/20 players shortlisted to be from the Premier League just shows the pool talent in England at the moment. Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona will surely win the award, but it is still pretty encouraging to see so many Premier League players on the list, including a couple of England national team players in there too.
