Since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover of Manchester City in 2008, the Emirati Vice President has expanded his football portfolio to multiple clubs around the world. All owned by City Football Group, these networks of clubs work together with the ultimate goal of having the best talent arrive in Manchester. To date, very few players have found themselves making their way to Manchester City via a City Football Group club.

That does not mean City is done trying this method, though. Yan Couto and Kayky are two Brazilian youngsters currently on loan at clubs owned by City Football Group, from Manchester City. Taking it a step further, City Football Group is signing players under the umbrella of the company itself and assigning players to their feeder clubs. For example, in 2022, winger Savio left his Brazilian club, Atletico Mineiro, to join CFG-owned Troyes. The player is now on loan at CFG-owned Girona from Troyes.

Girona is off to a phenomenal start in La Liga, and it looks like they could find themselves in the race for a UCL spot this season. Looking towards their attack, Savio has been one of the most significant contributors to Blanquivermells. The 19-year-old winger has kicked things off well in Spain, recording six goal contributions in nine La Liga matches. Now a U-20 International for Brazil, Savio is set on bigger things, including eventually playing for Manchester City.

"“I’m so happy at Girona, this is perfect place. The City Group is a very good project. I feel that City Group’s project is first class. If I do well, Manchester City will want me…” (MARCA via Fabrizio Romano)."

Spanish side Girona was acquired by City Football Group in 2017 and is partially owned by Pep‘s brother, Pere Guardiola, who is Girona’s board director. Savio hopes to find himself as one of the first success stories of the ownership between the two clubs.
