Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is set to open talks with his exceptional Ballon d’Or nominee who is a key part of the club’s future.

Manchester City come off the back of an exceptional season and the best in the club’s history. They won the treble last time out, which makes it a near-impossible task for Pep to replicate that this season. Certainly, the fixture against title contenders Arsenal at the weekend will test City’s standard this season.

One player who was key to their history-setting season last term is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian international broke the Premier League goal scoring record in his first season and provided some remarkable goals in the club’s Champions League campaign.

However, the case for any world-class player is that Manchester City risk losing the talisman. Certain clubs such as Real Madrid are watching over his situation as they would like to collect all the world-class players available in the transfer market.

Manchester City plan to open talks with Erling Haaland over a new deal

However, Pep Guardiola would like to deter his old rivals by conversing with Erling Haaland. According to a report from The Telegraph, Manchester City are set to open talks with Haaland over offering him a new deal.

Certainly, it can be said at face value that Haaland seems happy at the Etihad Stadium. He seems to have made great friends with some players in the City camp including Jack Grealish. Furthermore, he’s continuing his father’s legacy in England and is the best player in the top flight by some distance.

However, we know that transfers are decided by the agents of these players rather than the players themselves. Time will tell whether the team behind Haaland see the City contract offer as beneficial to the long-term future of their client.
