Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has the tough decision to make on whether to let Eric Dier leave. Given his interest in this Man City midfielder, he’s decided.

Yesterday, The Top Flight published a report which read that Spurs were at risk of losing Eric Dier for free. Given that his contract runs out in the summer, his former club Sporting CP were interested to bring him back. Further, he has expressed an interest to return to playing abroad when his time at Spurs was complete.

Well, it turns out that new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou isn’t losing any sleep about losing the cult hero. In fact, his replacement may have already been lined up.

Spurs interested in signing Kalvin Phillips as an Eric Dier replacement

According to a claim by Football Transfers (via 90min), Spurs would be interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City should he become available for transfer. Phillips is tipped for a move away from Manchester, given that he’s surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola.

Even given the midfield crisis at the Etihad Stadium (with important midfielders injured/suspended currently), Kalvin Phillips still hasn’t been given a consistent run of games. This goes to show the perception of the player at the club – He is merely a rotational player and Pep would only start him in zero-stakes games.

As a player, this is bound to be demotivating. After all, you want to play at a club where you’re trusted to perform to your best capabilities on a near-weekly basis. Unfortunately, Man City isn’t the best place for him if he would like this role.

Ange Postecoglou is so popular at Spurs because he gives everybody a chance. Even players whose careers seemed down and out, like Richarlison or Yves Bissouma for example, have greatly benefited from working under the Australian manager.

Do you think Kalvin Phillips should sign for Tottenham?
