Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the versatile 19-year-old from Serie A side Fiorentina, but the deal could be complicated to get over the line.

Arsenal have had a great start to the season. As things stand, they’re third in the Premier League table, but have an opportunity to go top of the table at the weekend if they beat Manchester City and other results go their way.

Certainly two big asks, but Mikel Arteta has instilled a “never say never” approach in this team and the players have really embedded that philosophy. Particularly the new players, which truly shows the character Arteta is in that dressing room.

Arteta is planning to showcase his character even more by bringing in some excellent January additions. While the transfer window might seem like a lifeline away and nobody likes to wish time away, it’s important for the club to have plans for the future. So much so, Arteta is eyeballing a very special 19-year-old talent.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta monitors Michael Kayode from Fiorentina

According to a report from Calciomercato (via 90min), Arsenal are interested in signing Michael Kayode from Fiorentina. The defender who is versatile and can play in multiple positions across the back-line is highly valued at the Serie A side, so they would like to tie him down to a new contract.

Mikel Arteta will hope that contract isn’t signed by the new year, so he can use his charm to convince the player to sign at the Emirates Stadium instead.

Certainly, Kayode is an Arteta-type play. As has been demonstrated since he took charge in North London, he values defenders who can mould into different positions. This is demonstrated by Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Alex Zinchenko who all get regular gametime due to their versatility in the back-line. Throwing Kayode into the mix would do wonders for the versatility.
