New summer signing Sofyan Amrabat has settled in well at Manchester United. So much so, he’s made a remarkable “goalkeeper” claim.
Yesterday, Manchester United got off to winning ways in the Carabao Cup. It was a convincing win against Crystal Palace as the Red Devils hope to keep the trophy at Old Trafford this season. As expected, it was a match where new summer signing Sofyan Amrabat was given his full debut. Speaking out after the match, fans are impressed with his commitment.
Sofyan Amrabat would even play as a goalkeeper for Manchester United
The Moroccan midfielder, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, claimed that he would be willing to play anywhere in a Manchester United shirt, even goalkeeper! This is because his dream since being a child was to represent the great club which is United.
Of course, players are memed online for claiming they have always dreamt of playing for their new club. However, given the way he played last night, you can’t help but believe Amrabat this time round.
Erik ten Hag signed Amrabat for a reason. Let’s not beat around the bush, he is clearly a squad player rather than a sure starter. When all players are fit, it’s unlikely that Amrabat gets a shot in the first team on a regular basis. But the reality is, not every player will be fit all of the time – particularly given the injury prone players in United’s midfielder.
This is a real opportunity for Amrabat to become a regular for United. The fans are certainly on board after his performance last night and he clearly likes the club to claim that he would even play as a goalkeeper. Hey, it’s not ridiculous to say that he would be a safer choice than Onana.
What did you make of Sofyan Amrabat’s performance last night?
