“Frustrating” Arsenal midfielder could quit Mikel Arteta’s project in January

Arsenal prepare to face Everton away from home this evening. However, there is one player who they know will be unavailable for selection. That player is Thomas Partey, who is currently nursing a groin injury and is expected to be out of action until next month’s international break. It’s not good for Mikel Arteta as Thomas Partey is an important midfielder and makes the system function when fit, however, he is rarely fit these days.

With that in mind, it feels like a missed opportunity for Arsenal. In the summer, there was an opportunity to part ways with the Ghana international as many clubs, including those in Saudi, were interested in signing him. It would have been a good chance to recuperate some cash and invest in a young defensive midfielder who isn’t as injury-prone. This could still be Partey’s fate.

Thomas Partey is ready to quit Arsenal in January

According to Football Insider, Partey is “ready to quit” Arsenal in January, if he isn’t handed back his spot in the first team upon his return from injury. The move could benefit the Gunners too, since come the January transfer window, the player will only have 18 months remaining on his current deal.

Rather than extending Partey’s contract, I think it would be best for Mikel Arteta to consider cutting ties. Particularly since the player feels like he isn’t part of the strongest team, it seems like the Spanish boss would be fighting a lost cause.

Do you think Arsenal should sell Thomas Partey?
