Arsenal injury news – Thomas Partey sidelined for several weeks

Heading into today’s match against Everton away from home, one player was essentially CONFIRMED to be out of action. That player is Thomas Partey, who suffered a groin injury in the buildup to to the pre-international-break fixture against Manchester United. However, the true extent of this injury remained unknown until now.

According to an update and confirmation from the trusted Football Insider, the Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey could be sidelined for several weeks, in fact even heading into next month’s international break. This means that Partey will miss some key fixtures for the Gunners, including the North London derby and hosting the champions Manchester City.

If Arsenal are to win the Premier League title, which is certainly the aim this time round for Mikel Arteta, then these are MUST win fixtures. For Partey, who is one of Arteta’s most important players to be ruled out, is a BIG blow for the Gunners.

The absence of Partey was felt in last season’s title-defining game against Manchester City. If you cast your mind back to the onslaught, just a few hours before the lineups came in, it was rumoured that Thomas Partey would miss the fixture and as a result, the Gunners were bullied in midfield.

Thankfully, this year, Partey has adequate backup to call upon in Declan Rice. The England international, who often plays a bit further forward under Mikel Arteta, could easily be utilised as the defensive midfielder since he has experience doing this for West Ham and England.
