Liverpool have made some significant changes to their squad in preperation for next season. In particular, Jurgen Klopp’s midfield has been a key area of his rebuild and it’s been very much needed. With the departures of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, the Liverpool board has been forced into investing in midfielders.

And in fairness, they’ve done well. Completing the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and, of course, Dominik Szoboszlai, the midfield looks strong for next season. Tactically, Klopp is also willing to utilise Trent Alexander-Arnold as an inverted midfielder too.

But while work has been done, the depth isn’t quite there. Particularly when you consider Liverpool will be playing below their means in the Europa League, this is the perfect opportunity for the German to rotate his squad. This is only possible if there are more midfield options.

A few names have been thrown around, namely Romeo Lavia of Southampton. However, there is another player with Premier League experience who is being eyed by the Liverpool recruitment team.

Liverpool “loves” Cheick Doucoure of Crystal Palace

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to the Talking Transfers podcast, the club “loves” midfielder Cheick Doucoure. The 23-year-old, who is adored by his club Crystal Palace, is rumoured to cost around £70m should the Reds choose to pursue him.

Given the price differences and Southampton being more open to sell than Crystal Palace, I would expect The Reds to opt for Romeo Lavia instead.
