[3] Alan Varela – Boca Juniors (Argentina)

Brighton is no stranger to the South American market, having signed the likes of Julio Encisco, Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo and Facundo Buonanotte directly from South America. They could continue that trend with Andre or Boca Juniors’ Alan Varela. The 22-year-old Argentine is gaining European interest after a solid 2022 campaign. Varela’s FBRef page is a lot of green which is always a great sign to see. He is a phenomenal passer of the ball, ranking in the 99th percentile in passing completion and 84 in passes completed. He is also a very good chance creator despite the low amount of assists so far in his professional career.

Varela is a solid tackler and interceptor like Moises Caicedo. He often operates in a three-man midfield at Boca, but almost exclusively plays as a defensive midfielder. Between Adams, Andre and himself, Varela would definitely be the cheapest buy for Brighton.
