The Romeo Lavia transfer saga is in full swing, and it looks to be a battle between Liverpool and Arsenal at the moment.

Despite relegation, Southampton looks pretty adamant about Lavia’s £50M transfer value. With both Liverpool and Arsenal already spending large chunks of money, it is unlikely either club will want to pay that exact price in full.

Fabrizio Romano recently spoke to GIVEMESPORT and revealed how Liverpool, in particular, may be able to get around this stumbling block. Romano states that Liverpool could make a “creative formula” that could include either add-ons or players loaned or transferred to Southampton. Add-ons in transfers are quite common in modern-day football, but sending players the other way is not as common.

There are only so many players that will be willing to go to Southampton and, conversely, only so many players that Southampton would want.

A player that immediately springs to mind is Nat Phillips, who is expected to depart Anfield this summer. The Top Flight has previously reported that the Liverpool defender has interest from both Leeds and Dutch side Feyenoord. He has experience in a promotion side, having previously played for Bournemouth during the 21-22 EFL Championship season. While he’s had little chance to prove his level, he could be a solid pickup for Southampton, who will likely see some centre-back outgoings.

Tyler Morton is another obvious candidate that checks off some boxes. Southampton will very likely be losing James Ward-Prowse in addition to Romeo Lavia. Morton spent last season on loan at Championship side Blackburn where he played central midfield. At 20 years old, his future likely does not lie at Liverpool, and he could be moving away permanently this summer.

Loan players that could make sense include Conor Bradley, Ben Doak, Bobby Clark and Kaide Gordon.

It remains to be seen when Liverpool will push to sign the Belgian talent, but they have some options on the table to make Romeo Lavia a Red.
