Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi is never shy to ask for what he wants. What makes this even better is that he only wants the best for the club he manages. Thankfully for fans, there is a close and healthy working relationship between the manager and the club board.

And understandably so. After all, following their terrific campaign last time out, De Zerbi has given the board all the reasons in the world to trust his process. Thankfully, he is being repaid by having his transfer wishes granted.

Following the Seagulls’ recent pre-season friendly against Chelsea, they showed plenty of spirit. While they may have lost, De Zerbi showed that his transfer decisions make them capable of competing with the big dogs next season.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is full of praise for new signing Joao Pedro

Speaking after the match, the Italian boss was quick to point out the involvement of Joao Pedro, the club record signing who came on off the bench and had an immediate impact. He won and converted a penalty, before assisting the final consolation goal.

Although the Brazilian forward’s involvement didn’t change the outcome of the tie, it did demonstrate that he is capable of having a real impact on matches. Further, his involvement in the two final goals make Brighton fans excited for when he is in the starting eleven next season.

Brighton play in the Europa League, so it’s good to see that the squad is still showing heart despite missing some key faces from last season. I’m certain that club record signing Pedro will hit the ground running when it matters most.
