Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal will sell “talented” 21-year-old soon
By Kian Long
Arsenal have had a very good summer, taking their spending to around £200m on three much needed transfers. This is in the hopes that they can more tightly push for the Premier League title next season, after missing out to Manchester City last season.
While Mikel Arteta would like to continue spending and bringing in more players to satiate his hunger, he must face the reality. There are players who must be sold in order to make room in the squad and make up for the spending they have already done.
So far, it is just Granit Xhaka who has left but more are expected to leave. According to the transfer expert, it could be a goalkeeper next.
Arsenal will sell Arthur Okonkwo this summer
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have agreed to sell Arthur Okonkwo this summer. The 21-year-old, who Romano has dubbed as “talented” is entering the final year of his contract, so Mikel Arteta feels like now is the time to sell him.
In fairness to Okonkwo, it is the right time for him to move on. While he’s still young, he needs to get out there and go to a club that can guarantee him first team football. It’s important to remember that Aaron Ramsdale is still young, not injury prone and doesn’t get suspended.
Therefore, besides the cup games (where Arteta is more likely to choose Matt Turner anyway), there are no opportunities for Okonkwo to make a name for himself. It’s unfortunate, but he’s third in the pecking order so selling him would benefit all parties.
Where could you see Arthur Okonkwo playing next season?
