Everton have been active in the transfer window, as Sean Dyche would like to improve his chances of success next season after avoiding relegation last time out. The Toffees need to improve the spine of their squad, which will be done through financial backing from the board.

In what is perhaps the most Dyche transfer ever, Everton have dabbled in the free agent market which was a very wise decision given their budget.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Everton have signed Ashley Young as a free agent

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has today confirmed that Ashley Young will undertake his medical examinations today, before officially signing his new Everton contract. Given his dedication to fitness and lasting until the age of 38 years old, Young should have no problem and this medical should be a breeze for both the club and player.

Ashley Young is a legend of the game and he will improve the English spine of this Everton squad, Bringing with him a wave of experience at the highest level, the young Everton players will listen to his advice keenly.

Ashley Young is a Premier League winner and has played alongside some of the greatest players in the history of the game. Also, he has been moulded into the player he is today by the greatest manager of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson. Therefore, there aren’t many better to act as a mentor in Everton’s rebuild.

There will, of course, be scrutiny from the fans given his age. Ideally, they would’ve liked to sign a younger player with a bright future. However, I think Dyche would be the first to tell you that this is only a short-term solution and a free signing to build character in the squad. Plus, obviously, there can be no loss of investment with a free deal.

What do you make of this deal?
