Newcastle United are expected to splash the money this summer, but they could add Tino Livramento at a modest price

According to John Percy and Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Newcastle United are pushing to sign Southampton’s Tino Livramento. It is believed that Newcastle feels they can sign the English youth international for around £15M, but Southampton is hoping to get double that amount in any Livramento deal.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle United has already sent a proposal to Southampton that includes cash-plus winger Ryan Fraser who is not expected to extend his stay in Northern England. The situation is still developing, but at the very least, it seems Southampton is willing to entertain the idea of Livramento leaving this summer.

Tino Livramento had a rough last year but has found light at the end of the tunnel. After suffering an ACL injury against Brighton in April 2022, Livramento did not return to senior play until over a year later, funny enough, against Brighton again. Fullback Kyle Walker-Peters is expected to leave Southampton this summer, so it looks as if the south coast club is prepared to make James Bree the go-to right-back in the Championship next season.

Tino Livramento would, of course, be a backup option to the phenomenal Kieran Trippier, who started every single Premier League match last season for Newcastle. While still raw in some areas of his game, Livramento can move the ball up the pitch very well and possess sound defensive awareness.

Livramento is an England U21 international but remains eligible for Portugal through his father and Scotland through his mother’s side.

It’s not the only deal Newcastle is trying to wrap up. As reported by The Top Flight, Newcastle may very well break their transfer record with the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
