Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen the name “Declan Rice” over the last few days more often you’ve seen the back of your hand. This is because the West Ham captain is involved in a transfer triangle between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta has shown a keen interest in signing the England international for as long as I can remember, way before the transfer window opened. However, yesterday it was revealed that Manchester City planned to submit their opening bid for Rice. At the time of writing this, that official bid has still not been submitted, just talks at this stage.

This leaves many fans without hope. The Gunners couldn’t compete with the Citizens on the pitch and they certainly cannot in the transfer window. Man City are a financial powerhouse and for better or for worse, their financial takeover revolutionised the English game.

Two reasons why Declan Rice favours Arsenal move

But, there is hope. According to The Guardian, Declan Rice is keen on making the move to Arsenal, despite news of Manchester City’s interest. Journalist Jacob Steinberg has presented the two main reasons why Declan Rice may prefer a move to Arsenal over City.

Firstly, his preference is to stay in London. This is where Rice has built a home for himself, having been captain of West Ham and going down as a legend of the club. It’s thought that he is close with his family, which may have a decision in where he would prefer to move.

Secondly, Rice feels like he will get more game time at Arsenal. This is obvious since at Arsenal, he’d essentially start every game. At Man City, not so much. It’s thought that these two reasons will combine to make personal terms a breeze for Mikel Arteta.
