Over the last few days, those who keep up to date with Premier League transfer news are probably inundated with Arsenal stories. From Declan Rice to Kai Havertz to Jurrien Timber, there seems to be progression in every one of these cases.

Amid all these big names, it’s easy for Romeo Lavia to slip out of the radar. However, it’s important that we keep mentioning his name, because there is a very high possibility the Southampton man will be wearing an Arsenal jersey next season.

Arsenal in pole position to sign Romeo Lavia

Despite there being plenty of interest in the relegated Southampton midfielder, Arsenal appear to be in the “pole position” to sign him. Well, that’s according to Football Insider, who understand that Lavia has agreed personal terms with the Emirates Stadium outfit.

Personal terms are just the first step of the deal, we must stress. Arsenal still need to negotiate with Southampton over a deal, which is expected to be around £50m.

Of course, since Edu and co are quite busy sorting out Rice, Havertz and Timber, it might take a bit of time before there is progression in this Lavia deal. However, Lavia is certainly part of Arteta’s summer plans, he just has “bigger fish to fry”, if you will.

Lavia is seen as the ideal Thomas Partey replacement. He plays in a pivot well and covers the back four. Despite the Saints being relegated last season, he was certainly the club’s diamond in the rough and deserves better than the Championship this season.
