Arsenal, in recent years, have not been the type of club you look at as being the most financially smart. What I mean by this, is they tend to lose a lot of money by allowing players to run down their contracts and allowing their value to deplete from the moment they signed them.

However, this is beginning to change. Given the club’s recruitment revamp, they have not only focused on signing younger players with rising values, but they have also kept their players happy and their contracts organised. This means that if the time ever does come to sell their star players, their lengthened contracts justify a greater asking price.

One player who is linked with an Arsenal departure is Thomas Partey. Given Mikel Arteta’s plans to revitalise his midfield plan, centring that plan around Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, this indicates that Thomas Partey could be sold.

Arsenal hope to make a profit on Thomas Partey, Saudi clubs interested

Originally signing from Atletico Madrid for £45m in 2020, Mikel Arteta hopes that selling him now he is 30 is the perfect time, since they can make a profit on him before his attributes begin to lessen.

90min revealed yesterday that Thomas Partey has been given permission by Arsenal to explore his options in the Saudi Pro League. This is in the hopes they can free up space in this position, while making a greater return on their £45m investment.

Given Saudi’s efforts to draw more attention to their league, Arsenal’s efforts to improve their midfield and Partey’s efforts to secure more game time before his retirement, this is a win-win for all parties.

Partey’s likely replacement is Romeo Lavia, who Arsenal are relentlessly linked with over the last few days. It’s no coincidence the club is allowing Partey to leave, then.

Do you think Thomas Partey will join the Saudi Pro League?
