Pep Guardiola to Leave Manchester City After Current Contract Expires
By Ivan Buss
After completing a historic treble, Pep Guardiola is rumoured to be set on leaving Manchester City at the end of his current contract.
The final infinity stone has been added to Pep Guardiola’s coaching resume at Manchester City, and boy, was it a tough nut to crack. This season, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City replicated something their rivals thought would never again be seen from a Premier League side; they won the treble.
They chased down Arsenal and beat them to the Premier League by 5 points, beat their rivals Manchester United to the FA Cup, and then took down Inter Milan in a tense 1-0 win in the Champions League.
Manchester City has been seen celebrating wherever they can since, on the plane home, Ibiza for the night, and are currently capping off their celebrations with their parade in Manchester as this is written. This was the trophy that Pep Guardiola had been longing for since his days with Barcelona, and he has finally got his hands on the greatest prize in club football once again. Not to mention, he has completed the treble twice now, sliding him further up the list of greatest-ever managers (if he wasn’t already on the top).
It seems as though he was willing to stay as long as he needed to with Manchester City to win the Champions League, and now that he has, he will run out his current contract with City until 2025.
Before Manchester City fans begin to worry about what’s next for their club, who will be the next coach, and where they will go after 2025, it’s important to appreciate the times they are currently living in.
While in his seven years in charge of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has won:
- Premier League trophies (5x)
- FA Cups (2x)
- Carabao Cups (4x)
- Champions League (1x)
- Community Shield (2x)
All this is just the silverware to cap off incredible numbers under Pep. Reaching 100 points in the Premier League in 2017/18, amassing 300 victories in his time so far with Manchester City ( in 413 matches), and redefining what it takes to win a Premier League title, with record points totals in multiple seasons to take the Premier League title away from other challengers.
Guardiola has undoubtedly taken Manchester City to new heights, heights not even the most enthusiastic and optimistic Manchester City fans would have dreamed of. Many say this is the trophy that Pep was brought in to win, and while that might be true, to diminish the remainder of his accomplishments during his tenure in England would be absolutely foolish.
Whatever the decision may be come the end of Guardiola’s contract, there can be no complaints from anybody in City’s camp. He has extended his contract with Manchester City on numerous occasions, staying longer in England than at any prior club in his managerial career, and brought City fans everything they could ever ask for and more. Smashing records playing beautiful football, bringing some of the world’s best footballers to the Premier League (developing them too), and countless trophies and unforgettable memories, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have grown together, and it has been an incredible sight to see.
Do you think 2025 is the year Guardiola will depart Manchester City?
