Will Pep Guardiola convince this Manchester City star to stay this summer?

The double is in the bag at Manchester City and then they are expected to breeze past Inter Milan making it a historic treble. They really are a machine of a team and the credit should be heaped on Pep Guardiola if he does complete the historic treble; which was the last completed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999.

However, they could be about to lose a key player from this current side that has stood out more this year than any other year he has been at the Etihad Stadium.

The Manchester City captain could be gone

It is no secret that Ikay Gundogan has been weighing up his options with the Citizens and he could very well be tempted to leave after joining the North West side in 2016. He has won everything with City and he was one of the first signings for Pep Guardiola signing from Borussia Dortmund for, what seems like, a bargain £20 million.

However, after a seven-year stay in Manchester and being neighbours with Pep Guardiola, his stay looks like it has come to an end.

With Bernardo Silva likely to be leaving as well, it sparks a big shift in the City squad.

Would it be the right time?

It could well be. Gundogan has had possibly the best season of his Manchester City career and that was encapsulated with two volleys against Manchester United in the FA Cup final. If he could add a Champions League to the trophy haul then he could leave City a legend.

However, Guardiola is not wanting him to leave. At 32, he is entering the latter stage of his career but Guardiola is convinced he can still offer a lot to his dominating side.

Guardiola told the BBC, “He knows what I think,”

“(Football director) Txiki (Begiristain) is working on it. Hopefully, he can be successful.”

Where could he go if he does not stay?

Despite the desire from his manager to stay, Gundogan has suitors elsewhere. Barcelona have been admiring the roaming midfielder for a while but rumours suggest that his wages will be too much for them.

However, a return to Borussia Dortmund has not been ruled out and could be something his wife would like; she might like the food there!

There would be no hard feelings if Gundogan was to leave the Etihad this summer and he would be respected in any decision he would make. However, Manchester City fans will be hoping he stays for at least another season especially if he can hit volleys from outside the box against United.
