3. Scott McTominay

According to 101 Great Goals, Scott McTominay of Manchester United is one of the alternatives considered by Eddie Howe.

Considered as surplus to requirements at Manchester United, particularly given Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of Mason Mount, the Scotsman could be on his way out this summer, with Newcastle a potential destination for him.

Scott McTominay is an exceptional player and has experience on the big stage. He is not everyone’s cup of tea but he gets the job done efficiently and doesn’t crumble under pressure. While he might be the most stylist player, having a player like McTominay who can perform all the nitty-gritty tasks while being a master of the dark arts is important and would make him the perfect Magpies-type player.

Ultimately, he isn’t the BEST alternative to Kalvin Phillips, however, certainly one that Howe should consider since he would suit the system well.
