When you have a standout season and outperform anybody’s expectations like Newcastle United this season, there are bound to be consequences. One of those consequences is Europe’s most elite clubs (Barcelona, Real Madrid, etc) plotting to sign your best players.

Unfortunately, this is a scenario which Newcastle United will soon face. After finishing fourth in the Premier League and outstandingly qualifying for the Champions League, this is bound to generate some attention from across Europe.

Barcelona want to sign Bruno Guimaraes

According to The Times, Barcelona would like to sign Bruno Guimaraes. However, they are aware of the fact they’ll need to come up with around £87m to sign him.

Bruno Guimaraes has been the standout player for the Magpies this season. Granted, it’s been a team effort to get Eddie Howe’s men where they are, but Bruno has led that charge from the midfield. His immense ball-playing abilities and reading of the game is what made Newcastle tick.

Given Barcelona’s dooming financial situation, the odds definitely aren’t in their favour. However, with some of their midfielders rumoured to be on the way out including Sergio Busquets, they might want to invest some of the money accrued into a worthy replacement which would certainly include Bruno.

Newcastle United confident with new Bruno contract

However, the good news for Newcastle United fans is that this deal remains unlikely. A contrary report from 90min details that Newcastle are confident they can secure a new contract for Bruno, which would steer away the big European teams. Bear in mind, the Magpies are doing MUCH better financially than Barca.

The report from 90min also details that Bruno is not top of Barca’s list. Instead, they are more likely to try to sign Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer or Martin Zubimendi who has La Liga experience.

Do you think that Newcastle will manage to keep Bruno Guimaraes?
