With Arsenal back in the Champions League next season and Mikel Arteta giving people across the world reason to believe in his project, the club will have a lot of pulling power in the transfer market.

We reported the other day that Mikel Arteta planned to sell eight players and sign five players in his major summer transfer window reshuffle. He will, of course, have backup options, but it’ll take a lot for him to back down from the players he really wants to sign.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Arsenal want to sign Declan Rice. I mean, they’ve not exactly kept their desire a secret, have they? We revealed earlier today that an official bid will be submitted in June, but with other clubs lurking, the timing of Gunners’ opening bid will be crucial.

One team who is also lurking and wants to pounce on any mistake made by Arsenal is Manchester United. They are also in the market for a new midfielder, as Erik ten Hag plans to add more quality to this weakened position in his team. It’s thought that a top quality midfielder needs to partner with the already excellent Casemiro for the Red Devils to be title contenders.

However, according to the Mirror, Declan Rice would much prefer to sign for Arsenal than he would for Manchester United, Chelsea or Bayern Munich – the three other clubs linked with him.

And understandably so, as a young player, signing for Chelsea is the worst possible scenario. As an England international, you have more chance of making it in the Premier League than you do in the Bundesliga. And for the toss-up between United and Arsenal, Rice just sees more potential in Arteta’s project than Ten Hag’s project.

What do you make of Declan Rice’s favouritism for Arsenal?
