As the club search for a striker this summer, Manchester United have reportedly identified Goncalo Ramos as another top target
According to Mirror Football, Manchester United is positioning itself to advance its interest in Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos of Benfica. It has been widely reported that Harry Kane is the top choice for Erik ten Hag this summer but Manchester United have identified many alternatives to the English international. Ramos is the latest to make headlines and is now being touted as someone ten Hag would love to work with for next season. Mirror Football report that Manchester United could set a new club transfer record with the Ramos being valued at somewhere between £70M to £100M. Midfielder Paul Pogba currently holds that title, when he moved to United from Juventus for an initial £89.3M in 2016.
With either Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim likely set to become the owner of Manchester United, there is going to be money to spend in the near future.
Goncalo Ramos at 21-years-old has become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe this season. With 17 goals in 24 games in Portugal, Ramos has positioned himself nicely to challenge for the Primeira Liga golden boot. Ramos also had 7 goals in 14 Champions League matches this campaign which saw Benfica reach all the way to the UCL quarter-finals.
Manchester United will undoubtedly need to make a decision at centre-forward. Wout Weghorst, while admired by ten Hag, has gone 14 Premier League matches without scoring. Additionally, Anthony Martial has failed to stay healthy this season. Marcus Rashford who is capable of playing striker plays his best football out at left wing. If Manchester United wants to take a step forward in the league next season, bringing in a world-class striker is a must. As reported by The Top Flight, Ramos is not the only Kane alternative being eyed up.
