Newcastle United will be busy securing UCL reinforcements this summer with the club now looking at both Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara

As per Sky Germany’s Philipp Hinze, Newcastle scouts have recently attended both home and away matches of RB Leipzig. The scouts have reportedly been keenly watching Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara. It is also believed that Newcastle are more interested in Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai and Haidara have come through the Red Bull system to reach the Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig. Both players previously played for Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Now the captain of Hungary, Dominik Szoboszlai is on the brink of leading RB Leipzig to a second DFB Pokal trophy in a row. He bagged a brace in the semi-finals of the cup which has seen Leipzig advance to the final once again. While usually being touted as an attacking midfielder, Szoboszlai this season has mainly played out on the right wing. Given that Eddie Howe’s side plays exclusively in a 4-3-3 formation, Szoboszlai could find himself in Newcastle’s attack quite easily.

Amadou Haidara is the oldest of the two players and conversely has been at RB Leipzig longer. The central midfielder joined in January 2018. A Mali international, Haidara has not been a regular starter for RB Leipzig this summer. Despite this, the recent games Newcastle scouted are ones he did start in. Haidara can play as both a box-to-box midfielder and defensive midfielder which could make him very flexible in a Newcastle midfield three.

Szoboszlai’s contract still runs until 2026 which means any club targeting the Hungarian will have to pay full price. Much the same can be said for Haidara whose contract will run for another two seasons at RB Leipzig.

What are your thoughts on Szoboszlai and/or Haidara to Newcastle United?
