With the summer transfer window only around the corner, you’d expect Manchester United to be active in the window this time. The Red Devils have not achieved their own target of winning the Premier League title, in fact they were quite far off that target. Now, Erik ten Hag has to invest in his squad but for that, he must win the backing of the board.

One way to make some funds available for the busy window is to sell players. Not only does this free up space in the squad, but it alleviates some pressure on the wage bill and brings in some valuable finances to reinvest in the squad.

According to the latest report from the Daily Mail, Harry Maguire fears that he may have to leave Manchester United this summer if he is to mount a challenge to appear in the England international squad in 2024. This is due to concerns that he isn’t get enough game time to prove his fitness and form to Gareth Southgate.

Maguire ages at 30 years old so this is likely to be his last Euro competition. He’ll likely push for a chance to play in the World Cup but he’s only got two more international competitions left in the tank, I would say.

Maguire’s Manchester United career hasn’t exactly gone the way he or the club would like. Given his immense price tag and being the most expensive defender in the club’s history, he’ll go down as a flop transfer at the club.

Luckily for Maguire, though, there’s a chance for him to revive his career in his last handful of seasons. There’ll be plenty of clubs either in England or across Europe who’ll be looking to sign a new centre back, it’s just a case of discussing the best option.
