Chelsea are in the mud. They’ve played absolutely attrociously all season and not given the fans anything to be proud of. They now need to recover from a 2-0 deficit to the best team in the world Real Madrid in a competition which they have plenty of history in. New manager Frank Lampard hasn’t been able to get a word in edge ways since being employed by owner Todd Boehly and co.

According to The Guardian, Todd Boehly and other board members were in the Chelsea dressing room after their club lost embarrassingly against Brighton and Hove Albion. The report claims that Boehly singled out an unnamed player for not living up to his expensive price tag. While the player remains unnamed, it’s thought that he’s senior and signed by Boehly for a big price tag within the last 12 months.

If “senior” is relating to age, then this cancels out a lot of players and leaves only Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. It’s hard to locate which player Boehly was speaking about as frankly, there’s not a single Chelsea player who’s played well all season. Not one.

However, what’s most interesting about this saga is that Frank Lampard, the Chelsea “manager”, is in support of this all. According to the Daily Mail, Lampard said he is “comfortable” with Boehly being a presence in the dressing room.

This is something I find incredibly difficult to believe and to me, this comes across as Lampard being a PR-darling. No respected manager who wants the best for their players would be comfortable with a club owner coming into the dressing room trying to be tactical.

Let’s face it, you could get more footballing intelligence out of a potato than you could out of Boehly. Lampard is in the best position to lecture his players, not a businessman who only cares about the club for profit and portfolio.

What’s your take on this situation?
