Manchester City and Liverpool will fight for Chelsea’s talented centre back

Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is destined to be a top centre-back in the Premier League but it could be with Manchester City or Liverpool instead
According to Standard Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella, both Manchester City and Liverpool have identified Levi Colwill as a top centre-back target.
Additionally, managers Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are admirers of the defender, further pushing the idea that their clubs will make a move for the U21 England international. There’s a belief that Chelsea may have to sell players amid rumours the club needs to be compliant with financial fair play rules in the summer. Colwill’s current contract expires in 2025 and the player is said to not want to go out on loan again after this season.
Colwill after a struggling start to life on loan at Brighton has begun to show just why he is rated so highly. Despite potential financial restrictions, Chelsea would be wise to hang onto Levi Colwill as they look to build upon their “project” built by owner Todd Boehly.
Originally from Southampton, Levi Colwill joined Chelsea at a young age. Colwill comes from a family of footballers with three uncles that previously played non-league. Colwill’s first step into the Chelsea Academy limelight was in 2019 when he suited up for the U18s, also making appearances for the U19 side that played in the UEFA Youth League. The following season Colwill made the step up to the then-U23 side of Chelsea in Premier League 2, making 18 appearances.
Colwill exploded onto the pro scene last season when he was sent on loan to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Championship from Chelsea. Colwill quickly became one of the best young centre-backs in the league when healthy. Despite the impressive season at just 19 years old, Colwill, unfortunately, scored an own-goal in the playoff final that sent Nottingham Forrest to the Premier League. Now at age 20, Colwill has found some good rhythm lately at Brighton who is rolling in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen what sort of moves either Manchester City or Liverpool will make to accommodate a potential transfer of Levi Colwill but it will be in Chelsea’s best interest to keep the youngster under contract at Stamford Bridge.
What do you think will happen with Levi Colwill? Should he see what City or Liverpool has to offer?
