Just when you thought they were crawling back into their shells, the Arsenal police have come out in full force again. This time, it’s one of the more prestigious officers who actually has playing experience (and managerial, believe it or not). Yep, Gary Neville is back to speaking about Arsenal.

On Twitter this morning, Neville replied to a remark made by him about his previous comments on Mikel Arteta. The Manchester United legend turned commentator remarked with “One year ago you lot were asking for him [Arteta] to be sacked”.

Bit of a weird response, and a weirder tweet to reply since it more to show the rise of Arteta. In many ways, though, the fact that Neville has reminded the Arsenal fans of their very, very small percentage of “Arteta out” fans just reimburses the great story of Arteta.

He’s right. There were a percentage of fans who wanted Arteta to be sacked. Granted, it was a very small percentage and they would probably eat their words, but that subculture did exist among the fan-base.

But now, I don’t think there’d be a single Arsenal fan who would call for Arteta to be sacked. He’s by far and away their best manager since Arsene Wenger and being as young as he is, if he stays with the club, who’s to say he can’t surpass Arsene?

It’s certainly not Neville’s first jab at Arsenal and it won’t be his last. As time progresses, though, those jabs do get funnier and funnier. Who remembers when he hilariously said with his whole chest that United would finish above Arsenal? That was funny and we need another prediction to see through to the end of the season.

What do you make of Gary Neville’s persistent comments about Arsenal? Do they even strike a nerve anymore?
