The Top Flight reported earlier today that Arsenal were edging ever so closer to securing the contract extension of their best player, Bukayo Saka. It was revealed that the Gunners are “ready to announce” the new deal, which would see Saka become the highest earning player at the club, on £300,000 per week. It’s big money, but it’s for an even bigger player.

However, they aren’t done there. According to The Boot Room, Arsenal want to follow up this immense piece of business with a landmark transfer. They want to sign Bukayo Saka’s best friend in the England camp, Declan Rice.

The England media team are some of the best and most modern professionals in the world. Fans of the England international team get a great view on how the players communicate and interact on a personal level, with the players often trialling different trends together and having a laugh on camera.

Saka is often at the heart of this, and his bromance with England teammate Declan Rice has been widely documented. According to Chris Wheatley (via TBR), Saka is a well-respected player within the England squad, and has formed close relationships with certain players including Jack Grealish and Declan Rice.

We reported a while ago that Declan Rice had been asking people around him who are affiliated with Arsenal what its like to work at the club. Undoubtedly, Saka would have been one of those people. Thankfully for the fans, we know that Saka has only experienced great things with the club and the fact he’s about to become the highest earner speaks volumes of what he means to the club.

This could work in Arsenal’s favour. The fact that Rice is Premier League proven already helps his case. However, the fact that he knows a few players at the club already (think Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White), would be a major pull factor for him.

Do you think Arsenal will sign Declan Rice this summer?
