Chelsea board split over Graham Potter decision – Todd Boehly likes him
By Kian Long
There’s been another swing in the Chelsea manager merry-go-round. It was once thought that Graham Potter had just two matches to save his career at Stamford Bridge, but recent news hints this could be extended.
According to the Daily Mail, the Chelsea board are “split” over the decision on whether to sack Graham Potter. However, Todd Boehly, who is without a doubt the most influential since he essentially co-runs Chelsea alongside Potter, wants him to stay.
The report then goes on to say that Boehly is arguing that appointing a new manager would actually set the club back in their development. There’s been a lot of talk about Boehly implementing a ‘project‘ and he’s in favour of Potter being the figurehead of that project.
Chelsea kick off against Leeds United in around 3 hours. It’s a weird one for fans because obviously they want their team to win but if they’re in the Potter out camp, the win would be bittersweet. This match is thought to be the first half of his ultimatum so it’s a must-win.
Boehly doesn’t tend to crack under pressure. We saw in the last two transfer windows that when he wants something, he has his eyes set only on that thing – nobody can tell him any difference. However, you’d think that even he would be swayed to sack Potter if Chelsea lose today.
Some are even dubbing Graham Potter as the worst manager in Chelsea history. I think that’s a little harsh. Then again, the people saying that probably can’t remember what the club was like before the last 15 years.
The reality is, Potter just needs more time. I know that’s difficult for fans to hear, because they’re used to having a new manager every month. But that’s just the truth – change the people at the top, they’re making this club toxic, what more can Potter do when most things are out of his control?
Do you think Chelsea will sack Graham Potter?
