Chelsea have a plethora of options in their squad – many would argue, too many. Graham Potter, whose time at the club may be limited, has already claimed that there are too many players in the squad, which is a fault of Todd Boehly and his reckless spending.

The club wants to avoid making matters worse, so Todd Boehly has had to put his football cap on and learn how to actually run a successful club. What this involves is putting together a project and deciding which players are beneficial to achieving this, and which aren’t.

According to Sport Witness, Chelsea ‘no longer want’ Romelu Lukaku, so they’ll look to sell him permanently in the summer transfer window. It’s thought Lukaku is surplus to requirements and nothing to do with the project that Boehly wants.

Chelsea have Joao Felix and Kai Havertz, who both can do a job at striker. Felix appears to be playing well (as well as you can be as a Chelsea player at the moment, anyway) therefore, the Blues might feel the need to sign him permanently after his loan ends.

Romelu Lukaku is 30 years old, so doesn’t really seem to fit in at Stamford Bridge. I’m the biggest critic of Chelsea but one thing they’re doing right is promoting the importance of youth. They want a young squad, something which they’ve been criticised for not having in the past.

Therefore, despite their poor form, they’re undergoing a period of transition. Where a 30-year-old striker fits into a transitional period is limited, therefore you can understand Chelsea’s desire to sell Lukaku.

There are options for Lukaku as he’s a proven goal scorer in multiple European leagues. He’s always looking for his next adventure as he’s never really been a one-club man.

Where do you think Romelu Lukaku will play next?
