Well, well, well. Last night, fans were treated to some Champions League goldust. Liverpool went two goals up against Real Madrid at home but in true champion’s fashion, Los Blancos came back to score FIVE goals. In the end, the scoreline was 5-2, leaving Jurgen Klopp with a huge task in the second leg.

In the buildup to the match, the Anfield faithful were doing all they could to motivate their team and demotivate Real. To do so, fans set off fireworks in the early hours of the morning next to the hotel where Real Madrid players were sleeping. This was in an effort to disrupt their sleep and leave them groggy for the match.

Obviously, it didn’t work. Real Madrid looked better and more sharp than they’ve looked all season. Turns out, they took the firework display as a compliment.

Rival fans love it when Liverpool make a mockery of themselves and so, naturally, they have jumped on social media to ridicule them. You’ll never get away with a 5-2 loss at home easily, let alone with all the pre-match build-up.

Let’s take a look at some of the best memes on Twitter…

This Twitter user was quick to remind fans that it’s better to set off fireworks on the pitch, not at 2am outside a hotel.

The Reds were even poking fun at themselves.

They do love a firework over there.

This is my personal winner.
