It’s looking positive for Darwin Nunez, who went down injured in Liverpool’s recent Premier League win over Newcastle United. Tonight he prepares for the biggest game of his career, a Champions League fixture against Real Madrid.
Liverpool are showing good form and it’s been largely helped by Darin Nunez’ immense attacking work rate. When he went down injured fans feared for the worst ahead of the Real Madrid match as there aren’t many players who could do an adequate enough job replacing him.
According to the latest comments from Jurgen Klopp, there is a chance Nunez will feature in the Real Madrid match. Furthermore, Liverpool’s official website confirmed that Nunez was training with the 2-man squad ahead of the fixture.
"“There’s a chance, we have to see how he’ll cope with the pain” – Jurgen Klopp on whether Darwin Nunez is ready for Real Madrid (via BBC Sport)"
Liverpool fans know the importance of this match. It’s the first time they’ve come up against Real Madrid since the Champions League final, where Real won. Currently, Real sit second in LaLiga, whereas Liverpool are 8th in the league.
In terms of form, Liverpool have two wins in their last five league games – Real have 3 in their last five. Therefore, this game could be closer than people think. Whether either side is willing to commit men forward in the first leg on the chance they concede remains to be seen – however, the Reds have the significant home advantage.
If Nunez is fit, he will start. There’s no way around that – he is one of Liverpool’s most in form players and his well-taken chance against Newcastle proves how clinical he is, not only to control the ball like that and score, but to find the space in the first place.
Do you think Darwin Nunez will score against Real Madrid?
