According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal are keen to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. Ageing at 25 years old, Mikel Arteta sees this as the perfect opportunity to sign the in-form talisman, entering the peak stages of his career.

In Serie A this season, Martinez has returned an impressive 12 goals. To put this into perspective, only Victor Osimhen has scored more Italian top flight goals. During this time, Martinez has also provided 4 assists.

Arsenal’s interest comes as a result of Inter Milan’s public financial struggles. They need to make capital urgently and they see Lautaro Martinez as their most valuable asset, hence the decision to sell him. The report also claims, though, that the striker wants to move to Arsenal over any club.

Gabriel Jesus is currently sidelined through injury, with Eddie Nketiah stepping up to perform well in his absence. This leaves the Gunners with two quality strikers, but they mustn’t forget about Folarin Balogun, who is the leading top goal scorer in France, out on loan. Therefore, they already have three top-quality strikers available to them next season.

With that being said, it’s likely that one of these players will be sold if Lautaro Martinez is signed. It would be a shame to see any of them go, but it’ll be either Nketiah or Balogun in my opinion. Arteta is a fan of both of these players, so it’s an interesting thought to see how this pans out.

Arsenal aim to add more depth and more quality next season, as they hope to build on what could be a title-winning season this time out. They play the most important match of their campaign tomorrow evening against league-rivals City. Until this game is complete, the news surrounding Martinez will be parked.

Do you think Arsenal will sign Lautaro Martinez in the summer?
