Manchester United make shock squad choice involving Mason Greenwood
By Kian Long
Manchester United are still being hesitant with Mason Greenwood, and understandably so.
Manchester United have submitted their Premier League for the second half of the season. The list had to be submitted by 3pm yesterday, which was not enough time to learn about the conditions of Mason Greenwood’s release.
Greenwood is just 21 years old, so he is eligible to feature in a lengthened list of U21 players. This is what Manchester United have done. However, according to the Daily Star, despite Greenwood’s inclusion in the second-half squad, he won’t feature anytime soon. The club wishes to hold their own investigation before allowing Greenwood to play.
And rightly so. As a club, especially the size of Manchester United, they have to be 100% sure that Greenwood is innocent. A charge dropped does not always equal innocent, so it’s good to see United deal with this in a manner which is respectful to all parties involved.
The rules for submitting players in the second-half of the season squad is confusing. However, what we know for sure is that an unlimited number of players 21 and under can feature in the squad, while not hindering the allotted number of more senior players.
Before the case opened, Mason Greenwood was proving to be a real asset to the club, as he was prolific in the attacking third. Whether or not he plays football at Old Trafford again remains to be seen, when Manchester United carry out their own investigation into the case.
