The January window has always been tough for the Premier League to do business in, but there have been some great transfers so far across the league.

The time has come for the Premier League, as the league approaches its halfway point in the season. The January transfer window offers clubs the ability to reflect on their season, and see what is going well and what is missing. Chelsea meanwhile, has taken a, well… more aggressive approach to the January window. While the window is tight and often proposes its own difficulties, there have still been some big names moving into the Premier League so far in this window.

1.) Cody Gakpo – Liverpool

I feel it necessary to start with some of the earliest business that was done to start off the new year. Liverpool was swift and cunning in securing the coveted Dutch forward. Gakpo adds to a strong list of attackers in Jurgen Klopp’s side and was much needed due to the fact so many have been injured in recent months.

Gakpo, who was the star of the Dutch forward line in the World Cup last November, scored 3 goals in 5 games, while he saw his stock in the market skyrocket. With Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Roberto Firmino all in Liverpool’s infirmary, Gakpo got minutes almost immediately and shortly after began to appear in the starting XI.

While he hasn’t exactly hit the ground running, this was a great get for the former runners-up in the Premier League. Even greater when you think bigger picture, as Manchester United was also circling Gakpo for a potential deal, and considering where United is now, that would have significantly strengthened a Premier League rival in the eyes of Liverpool. For an initial £37 million going to PSV, with potential add-ons seeing the fee rise to £44 million, this was a great bit of business from Liverpool.
