Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has been the talk of North London so far this January Window ahead of a potential move to Arsenal.

Mykhaylo Mudryk is the name that has been on the tip of the tongue for so many at Arsenal, a move that has been building for quite some time. The winger has had an immense beginning to his breakout season, amassing 10 goals and providing a further 9 assists across all competitions. All of this has ended in Shakhtar putting an £88 million price tag on his head for any potential pursuers.

So far, this has been a price tag that Arsenal is unwilling to match, and perhaps rightfully so with the player playing in a league very different to that of the league he would be joining, if he ends up joining the Premier League. He does have options, with Chelsea apparently circling like a vulture waiting to pick at any unfinished scraps (even having already spent big since their new owners took over), but the player has clearly stated he prefers a move to the Gunners.

So, let’s look at the latest rumors surrounding the deal. Reminder, this comes from various sources, so there will be contradicting news (what’s new?). We tried to collect all of the latest over the past week, which seemingly is a lot.

Talks stall

As previously stated, Arsenal is hesitant to fork up the fee that Shakhtar Donetsk is quoting for Mykhaylo Mudryk. According to Fabrizio Romano, “Between the clubs, the conversation is on a daily basis, they always speak. But Shakhtar, as they told Chelsea last week and Arsenal for a long time, they are still insisting on €100 million.”

For the past weeks, Arsenal has not planned on meeting that package, possibly hoping they can add performance-based incentives to assure an enticing package that doesn’t include as big of an up-front cost for the player. Either way, Shakhtar has remained in the driver’s seat during negotiations.

Fabrizio Watch

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, “Arsenal have now submitted a new bid for Mykhaylo Mudryk in the last few hours”, but goes on to state that the deal is not done yet. Both Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk will continue negotiations to find an agreement on the fee for the Ukrainian star. Romano also mentions that there has yet to be an official bid from Chelsea amid rumored interest. Then again, who isn’t Chelsea interested in these days?

Contract

Personal terms between Mykhaylo Mudryk and Arsenal have never been an issue, and it is reported that a contract is already agreed upon between the player and club should the move get to that stage. It is just a matter of ironing out the details between Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Good news

According to Italian outlet FootMercato, there appears to be some good news for Arsenal fans. Stan Kroenke and co. have given the green light to meet Shakhtar’s transfer demands for Mykhaylo Mudryk, putting the fee around £88 million for the 22-year-old player. With the clubs still in discussions over bonuses and the final structure of the deal. An agreement could be reached shortly, and Arsenal may finally have their man.

Done deal?

ESPN reporter Jorge Baravalle has already stated when addressing Twitter, that Mykahilo “Mudryk will be an Arsenal player”.

Arsenal fans, how confident are you that the deal will get done in January? Is this a player that will help secure the Premier League, or do you feel more reinforcements are needed?
