Rising Canadian star Jonathan David wants Premier League move
By Evan Curnew
Jonathan David has made it known that he sees himself in the Premier League in the near future
Lille striker Jonathan David recently told La Voix Du Nord:
"“I don’t know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League”"
The Canadian forward has an impressive start to the 22/23 Ligue 1 campaign, with 9 goals and 4 assists in 16 matches for LOSC Lille. David under manager Paul Fonseca has returned back closer to the role of a shadow striker, the same role he played when at Belgian side Ghent, rather than the traditional number 9 role he has played since his arrival in Northern France.
David to some extent has been a polarizing but important player in his time with Lille. When he first arrived in 2020, it took him until his 11th Ligue 1 game to score his first goal and during the 21/22 season with Lille, he had a stretch of 17 games scoring just a single goal, despite a relatively hot start. 16 games into this season and David has shown no signs of slowing down at the league level and he may be close to getting his dream move.
As mentioned by his switch of roles in the Lille attack, David has allowed his playmaking abilities to shine once again, recording more assists this season already than the previous two seasons combined. David under Fonseca has been given more opportunities to both create big chances and be put into valuable positions to score big chances.
According to understat.com David is currently underperforming his xG (Expected Goals) and ranks 3rd overall in xG in Ligue 1 (min. 300 minutes).
Jonathan David has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs, including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

While in recent weeks there have not been many concrete links that David will move in January, he is an option that interests many clubs and should be one to keep an eye on next month to make a transfer to a Premier League side.
David is valued at just under £40M by transfermarkt.
