Are Rodgers’ tactics curtailing Daka’s output?

Despite his low output, the reasons behind Daka’s underwhelming season could be a case of tactical incompatibility. During his days at RB Salzburg, Daka played as part of a two-man strikeforce. The Zambian would play off the right with more support afforded to him and him being tuned into one striking zone.

It also helped in improving his overall contribution to the team in terms of assists as well. Patson Daka doesn’t function as an out-and-out #9. His game mostly deals with being the second wind in the attack.

Brendan Rodgers’ tactical inclination to keep a lone striker allows him to build on his creative force. But that leaves Patson Daka in unfamiliar territory. The 2021-22 season was a baptism by fire for the young forward who did show some glimpses of his quality playing alone upfront.

At times during Leicester’s Europa Conference League campaign and in the 4-2 win against United where he scored his first goal, Daka played as part of the two-man frontline alongside Jamie Vardy. With the decreased pressure of being the lone target in the box, Daka is much more effective.
