No surprise that Chelsea will soon cut ties with the failed Timo Werner, the only surprise, he returns to the club that sold him, RB Leipzig.

With only paperwork and a medical left to complete for Timo Werner, Chelsea has agreed to the permanent sale of their second first-team striker. He follows Romelu Lukaku, who rejoined Inter Milan on loan, out the doors at Stamford Bridge.

"Timo Werner on permanent deal to RB Leipzig, here we go confirmed. Medical tests will take place this week, scheduled on Tuesday. The clubs are preparing documents to be signed today – final details of the add ons structure discussed with Chelsea but deal is done."

After signing Werner in 2020 for a reported fee of £47.7million, they now sell him back to the German Red Bull club for a said £29,55m-£25,33m (€30-35m).

"The fee is believed to be around €30-35 million. Werner left Leipzig two years ago after scoring 95 goals — 34 in 45 matches in his last season — and 40 assists in 159 appearances.(Via: espn.com)"

It Was Always Going to Be Now for Werner and Chelsea to Part Ways

After two unsuccessful spells, under two different managers, Timo Werner was always going to be one of the several players Thomas Tuchel and the club were willing to offload this summer. In his debut season under Lampard and Tuchel, he was trusted 52 times, his return, 12 goals and 12 assists.

Nothing to write home about but something to build on, no doubt. Unfortunately, in his follow-up campaign, he could not take advantage of a misfiring Lukaku, Werner featured 36 times and only managed to score 11 goals again and collect as few as six assists.

The next big question is: who comes in to replace the outgoing German striker? There are many forward options the Blues have missed out on but there are still many world-class attackers who could come in and build on their opening weekend result.
