Ben Davies who has been at Tottenham Hotspur since 2014 has extended his stay at the club.
A statement on Tottenham’s official website read:
"We are delighted to announce that Ben Davies has signed a new contract with the Club which will run until 2025.The Wales international defender has been a model of consistency since his arrival from Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and shone last season as we finished fourth in the Premier League to qualify for the UEFA Champions League."
A Busy Summer for Tottenham
Spurs have been busy in the transfer window so far this summer. They have already signed Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, and Fraser Forster. With Champions League football and Antonio Conte at the helm, the club have become an attractive side to be a part of.
The left-back who has been versatile to fit into Conte’s team in a back three, made 43 appearances for the club last season.
Davies speaking about his new contract with the club added:
"It really feels like home now, the story continues."
Davies came through the youth ranks at Swansea City but also spent time in Denmark with Viborg FF before returning to the Welsh side’s academy.
He made his debut for the Swans in 2012 and would go on to make 85 appearances for the club, with three goals and three assists. He also won the 2013 League Cup whilst at the club as Swansea beat Bradford 5-0 in the final but that is the only trophy of his career. He played 84 minutes in the final before being replaced by Dwight Tiendalli.
Davies Time at Tottenham
The Welshman joined Spurs in 2014. He helped Spurs get to the final of the 2015 League Cup but was left on the bench on this occasion, as they lost 2-0 to Chelsea. Danny Rose was chosen to play ahead of him.
Another runners-up medal came in 2019 when Tottenham lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League Final. He was an unused substitute as Mauricio Pochettino again chose Rose to play ahead of him.
The left-back has 74 caps for his country and Wales is in a group with England at the Qatar World Cup this year. Davies will likely come up against Spurs teammate Harry Kane at the tournament. It looks like it will be a Spurs reunion with Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon also set to feature in the tournament.
Davies’ Wales teammate Bale scored his first goal for Los Angeles FC at the weekend in a 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. Unlike Davies, Bale left Spurs and won trophies including five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles at Real Madrid.
Despite his longevity at Spurs, he is yet to win a trophy at the North London side. But with his new deal taking him to 2025, possibly under Conte, Spurs will win their first trophy since the 2008 League Cup.
A player like Davies who has been at the club for so long deserves to win a trophy. With the squad Tottenham is building for the new season, it may be no surprise to see him lifting one with the club soon.
