#3 – Marco Silva (Fulham)

Fulham played champagne football within the 2021/22 season, scoring 106 goals en route to lifting the EFL Championship at the end of the season.

Having failed miserably with Hull City, Everton and Watford previously, Marco Silva will be looking to prove himself in the top tier of English football.

According to the bookies, however, Marco Silva is the next in line to be shown the door this year and the Cottagers are favourites to drop back down to the EFL Championship. Although, the owners have shown faith in Silva by backing him financially in the transfer market.

Bringing in Joao Palhinha for a cut-price deal from Sporting could turn out to be the bargain of the summer. Andreas Pereira coming in from Manchester United could also prove to be useful considering he brings Premier League experience.

Wolfsburg defender Kevin Mbabu is said to be flying to Portugal where he will have a medical ahead of his move to Fulham. However, the Cottagers would be disappointed with key players like Carvalho and Zambo Anguissa leaving for a combined £19million fee.

It may seem harsh to doubt Marco Silva’s managerial prowess but he looked so far out of his depth in his previous Premier League spells that it cannot be ignored. Fulham is perhaps the perfect litmus test to evaluate his managerial ability.

Once touted as a future Portugal manager, he can rebuild his reputation with a positive 2022/23 season. Should he fail at Craven Cottage, he is unlikely to receive another chance to take charge in England’s top flight.

Silva could do with adding a few players preferably those with Premier League experience which could prove to be vital as Fulham seek to survive the drop.

Craven Cottage will most likely be witnessing a relegation scrap this season and players like Mitrovic, Wilson, Robinson and Reed could prove to be essential for their survival.
