After their promotion from the EFL Championship, Nottingham Forest are on a bit of a roll when it comes to signing players.
They had already reached the six-signings mark before Friday when Forest took another stride to bolster their squad.
Wayne Hennessey from recently relegated Burnley has joined the club and becomes their second goalkeeper signing of the summer after Dean Henderson from Manchester United.
The 35-year-old goalkeeper joins Nottingham Forest coming off the back of a disappointing season playing for Burnley where he made only three appearances despite being the first-choice goalkeeper for the Wales National team.
Wayne Hennessey delighted with Nottingham Forest transfer
Upon signing his contract with the Midlands outfit, Hennessey said:
"“I’ve come up against Forest a lot in the past and it’s a fantastic club. There’s a great fanbase and the atmosphere at The City Ground is up there with the best in the game. It’ll be a different level now that we’re back in the Premier League.“I have also played with and against a few of the Forest players. It’s a very exciting time to come on board and I can’t wait to get involved and start training here at the Nigel Doughty Academy.”Via: Nottingham Forest"
The Premier League veteran has signed a contract for two years and will start training with the first team immediately ahead of the friendly against Barnsley on Saturday — the official statement from Nottingham Forest read.
With this move, Steve Cooper has sent another signal to the Forest fans that they have gone up and are ‘here to stay’ with the ton of talent and depth they have in their squad.
Steve Cooper marked the signing by saying:
"“Wayne is an excellent goalkeeper who has proven himself at the highest level over many years.“He’s helped Wales reach new heights in the international game and he has a wealth of Premier League experience. However, Wayne is also a great character and he is a very strong addition to the Nottingham Forest dressing room.”Via: Nottingham Forest"
Although Dean Henderson is set to be Forest’s first choice in goal, the 35-year-old poses a serious amount of competition for the role if things don’t go in Henderson’s way mid-season.
It is certain that Hennessey has joined the Reds due to the lack of playing time he faced at Turf Moor and wants to leave a legacy as long as he’s fit and a reliable presence in between the sticks.
Henderson would join his national team compatriots Brennan Johnson and new signing Neco Williams with whom he has led Wales to a World Cup qualification after 58 years.
