Home is truly where the heart is and Jack Wilshere shows he couldn’t be happy to be “back where” he “belongs”, which is at Arsenal; the former Gunner will now take up a position as the club’s Under 18’s head coach.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and sometimes a lot sooner for some of us out there. So goes the short but exciting story of Jack Wilshere and his time as a footballer. A career marred by injury problems, stricken by setbacks while enduring lengthy spells on the sideline.

It was just not meant to be for one of England’s brightest talents. It was by far the best decision a player as unlucky as Wilshere could make after recently announcing his retirement from playing at just 30 years old.

Arsenal Got the Best of Jack Wilshere

It is fair to say that once Wilshere left the Emirates, it was all downhill from there. Even before his final days as a Gunner, it wasn’t going too well for him. He only managed 20 Premier League games, with as few as 12 being starts.

Between then and now, he tried his luck with moves to West Ham, Bournemouth, and AFG. That’s three clubs where he could only make 50 appearances (28 starts) in all leagues and across all competitions. That’s only 12 games more than a regular 38-game Premier League campaign while this was over a stretch of four years.

So it is pretty clear there was never going to be a Jack Wilshere revival at Arsenal or at any of the other clubs he was at with his injuries always persisting and unable to have a healthy and consistent run of games.

His decision to become a youth team coach and kick-start his coaching career at the club he knows best is by far the best decision he could have made, despite only being 30. He can get a good head start and become a great manager at a youthful age and will be able to have a long-lasting career as the brains behind the operation.

He can also look and follow the examples of Bayern Munich’s manager, Julian Nagelsmann, as well as Ryan Mason, who was already a caretaker boss for Arsenal’s neighbouring rivals, Tottenham.
