#4 – Kalidou Koulibaly (S.S.C Napoli)

The Senegalese center-half has been a crucial player for Gli Azzurri for the last few seasons now. Koulibaly joined Napoli in 2014 from Genk and since then has gone on to play nearly 300+ games.

He is now one of the classiest defenders in the game, who shows maturity and brilliant technical ability on the ball. His biggest strengths are his positioning, tackling and composure on the ball, speed, and finally his aerial prowess.

In the 21/22 season, the 31-year-old enjoyed 87% passing accuracy across all competitions. He also completed 0.74 dribbles and 3.35 progressive passes per 90. Defensively, Koulibaly averaged 2.37 tackles, 1.63 interceptions, and 1.78 blocks per game.

Furthermore, the 6ft defender possesses the playmaking ability to start attacks from the back or even invite the opposition to press him. This in return allows him to absorb the pressure and create space for the midfielders and forwards.

The Senegalese defender normally plays as the left center-back but he can easily play on the right. Since 2018, Koulibaly has been linked with top clubs including Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City, yet Napoli have always managed to price him out of a move.

This summer, however, Barcelona’s reportedly interested in him with an offer worth €20 million set to be offered by the Catalan club. His contract also expires in 2023; they could consider cashing in now and look for a permanent transfer out of the club.
