Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer but it is unclear where the 37-year-old would go.

According to the BBC:

"Cristiano Ronaldo wants Manchester United to let him leave the club if they receive an appropriate offer for him this summer. The former Real Madrid forward is anxious to stress he respects United but as he enters the final stages of his career, he wants to compete for the biggest prizes."

Ronaldo is still a top player and scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season. He deserves to be playing for a club competing for titles and playing in the Champions League.

Leaving Manchester United may suit both parties as it will allow Eric ten Hag to implement his own ideas and not have to build a team around Ronaldo.

This transfer story this summer is going to be an interesting one and will hopefully end with the player finding a club that has a style of football that suits arguably one of the greatest players ever.

Ronaldo to Chelsea?

It would certainly not be a popular destination for Man United fans to see Ronaldo in the blue of Chelsea.

However, the Blues are in need of a striker having let Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan on loan. Lukaku was supposed to be the final piece in the jigsaw puzzle to drive Thomas Tuchel’s side into challenging for the title and Ronaldo could be a great replacement.

Their new owner Todd Boehly needs a statement signing and Ronaldo would certainly be that.

Napoli: A return to Italy perhaps?

Napoli has been known to make big signings in the past as they were the club that signed Diego Maradona from Barcelona.

The Italian side finished 3rd in Serie A last season and with Ronaldo, they could be challenging for the title. They can also offer Champions League football which Manchester United cannot.

Or a return to the club that gave him his shot: Sporting Lisbon

Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford in hindsight looks to have been a decision that was made with his heart rather than his head. A move to Manchester City or a club that can challenge for titles would have been better from a professional point of view.

Sporting is Ronaldo’s first club and although he would play in the Champions League with them he is still a top player and should be playing in one of the big 5 leagues of European football. He has spoken openly that he will one day return to his boyhood club as he owes them for giving him chance as a football.

Neymar’s situation at the club is uncertain so Ronaldo could be the Brazilian’s replacement. It would be intriguing to see him line up with Lionel Messi.

But the real question is: does the French side not have too many stars in their front line already with Messi and Kylian Mbappe? PSG are a club that has the finances to afford him and is a club that is desperate to win the Champions League.

Bayern Munich: A first taste of the German Bundesliga?

The German side has already signed Sadio Mane but Robert Lewandowski’s future at the club is in doubt; the latter has been linked with a move to Barcelona for the entire summer, with the La Liga having three bids turned down by Bayern. Ronaldo would be a perfect replacement for Lewandowski.
